OUR STORY

Moringa was founded in 2016 by two Japanese women, Maya Imano and Chika Mizuguchi, in Yangon, Myanmar.

Maya studied design in London, and before she moved to Yangon was an established interior and food stylist in Tokyo, Japan. When she moved to Yangon she was introduced to the simple beauty of Myanmar’s handwoven fabrics – and also to her friend Chika. Chika majored in Burmese at a Japanese university and has worked for NGOs in Myanmar for over 20 years, providing aid and advocacy to local farmers.

Maya and Chika created their company, Moringa, to reflect their shared vision: to manufacture beautiful products that represent the traditions of the country while supporting local people and their families.
